ocPortal 8.1.1

Greetings,

In my site's CEDI, "Encyclopedia Nor'Ova", I have been using the comcode contents tag to produce a table of contents at the top of my pages. It made these table of contents by pulling from my title or heading tags, providing a clickable method of navigation to the heading of intrest.

This has worked real well, and has helped my members to find the part of info they are after in our very detailed and lengthy CEDI pages.

Well today I decided to edit a couple of CEDI pages as we are working on simplifing our on-site RPG system. That is when I noticed something rather alarming....

The Table of Contents info disappeared!

Here is a screenshot showing the now empty table of contents...

I did nothing to change the way the table of contents work. It is the simple contents tag that you can choose from the comcode tag assistant. The heading tags were not changed. Just page info and new tables were put in on that page. I did try removing the contents tag and putting in a new one as well as playing with H2 or T2 tags, for example. No luck, the table of contents remains empty.

Furthermore, I have noticed that if I simply hit edit on a CEDI page, but do not actually edit the page and simply save it, the table of contents for that page becomes empty.

Personally I blame that evil demon that decides everything on my page has to get surrounded in individual tags, such as p tags. All I know is that before the editor started doing that, I had no issues with things like the table of contents coming up empty... but now it does. Going through to remove by hand every single little tag that the editor is putting in would be way too much work, and would mean I would not be able to get anything done in the small amount of time I have available to do things.

Hopefully I am wrong about the cause of the problem. Hopefully this is a simple bug that ocPortal gods like Chris can crank out a fix to quickly so I can get back to updating and editing my site pages.

Thanks in advance for any and all help in this matter. Points to be given for assistance!

Hi mythus.

You've been off the radar for some time. Thought you'd forgotten how to attach an attachment (  :o  ), but was soon told different by the post immediately after!

However,
"Guest" does not have access to this category.
means we still can't see what you mean, although you've explained yourself quite clearly (I think).

The <p> tags are probably the culprits, but I'm not sure how they got there, nor whether there is an 'easy' way to zappppp them.

Sorry.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Could the <p> tags have been placed there by the WYSIWYG editor? (I personally don't like it and I refuse to use it.)

Something that will work is to copy the text into an external editor and search for <p> and replace with nothing, then repeat the step but searching for the closing tag. Then just copy and paste back into your site.

Arg, foiled again… and this time by me forgetting that I have those pages as members only…

Which might not have been my brightest idea… kind of hard to intice people to join something they can't see much about…. Something I should strive to remedy once I get everything updated.

Since uploading attachments failed me, and linking to page failed me, lets see if I can't at least use IMG tags to link to an image upload site, showing my screenshots…

Here's a screenshot showing what a page looks like with the Table of Contents working:

Here's a screenshot showing a page I edited, the Table of Contents is empty:

Here is a screenshot showing the edit screen so you can see all those tags the editor puts into it:

Your solution might work for the short time sholzy, despite how annoying and time consuming that will be. However it does not fix the problem. If there is a bug in the WYSIWYG editor, it does need fixing. It can't be fixed if it isn't identified.

The funny and frustrating thing is, the editor used to work fine in the 7 series. It didn't add any of these tags in, and my page making and page editing worked fine. The table of Contents tag did its job. Therefore I have to believe that this is a regression that came about in the v 8 series. A regression that I hope we can pinpoint and get fixed.

Hi,

This was found recently (it's a bit buried, but it's in there):
0000637: PHP error when inserting a Table of Contents in a CEDI page - ocPortal feature tracker

Unfortunately you'll need to recreate the Comcode 'title' tags from the h2 tags that will now be in the markup.

Regarding the attachment bug here, if you know how to reproduce please report click-by-click how to do it and in which browser. I can see the new attachment marker was there in the post, which suggests to me the upload itself never came through.

Regarding the attachment issue:

All I did was add attachment via the typical method, select the file, it showed a message waying that it failed, then it said it was there.

So yeah… it's not a lot of help I know.

Greetings,

Replacing the heading tags with title tags worked. I also compared the bug report fix with my file.

So I guess I can mark this as solved. I didn't have to worry so much about the other tags that the editor put in there.

Thanks again, Chris

Was that like an upload error, the progress bar moved along then said failed?

I was meaning to say, this isn't a new bug, albeit an annoying one. What has changed is we are recommending the Comcode conversion option not be enabled anymore, but this has come up now because without Comcode conversion ocPortal doesn't recognise the h* tags for use with the contents Comcode tag. The fix changes it so that they remain as Comcode tags when passed through the WYSIWYG. But it is a little annoying as you can't create them in the WYSIWYG or office software, but that's life, there's no HTML parser within Comcode itself.

Sorry, I've been busy working on my site.

That is correct. It went to upload, but showed a failed message with an OK button. I hit that and then it said that the attachment or whatever was in type of message that you get when you add an attachment. I hit ok. It showed the attachment tag - albeit I guess without an actuall attachment. I submitted my post, and as you can see, no attachment was there.

Regarding the editor troubles:

I've been able and am still able to copy/paste from LibreOffice. I simply have to change the H tags to TITLE tags if I want it to work with the contents comcode tag. I also have to add your cheat code at the bottom, but *shrugs* it works.
