This appears when trying to paste facebook page link in news post

A user on our website created a news post. In the post she pasted a facebook page link. When she saved/added the post, the link text is displayed as "Security Check Required", even though you can click on the link and it does take you to the facebook page.

First time I'm hearing of this happening. Is it an issue with OEmbed?

Hello Rishi,

Could you paste the link here please?

It might be Facebook is limiting access to that link and thus when our server pre-fetches it to get the title (whatever method used) it just gets an error screen.

Regardless, I can run tests if I know the URL.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Hi,

The issue is that ocPortal is connecting to the Facebook URL to find the oEmbed URL, but Facebook is detecting it as automated activity and blocking it with a CAPTCHA.

To workaround it, you can add in the Facebook oEmbed to the ocPortal "oEmbed end-points" config option manually:

(https?://(www\.)?facebook\.com/.*) = https://www.facebook.com/plugins/page/oembed.json/

Also make sure facebook.com is added to "oEmbed white-list".
