wrong format

So,
I was importing a CSV containing email address for a newsletter distribution. Naturally, although comma-separated, I didn't have surname, forename, name fields.  So I have email address(data strings) for all those fields for about the first 5 subscribers.  I can't find out how to delete that file or edit those fields.  Can only import or veiw.

Also, can I send an Invite Newsletter to non-subscriber, non-member for my site?   I don't want this to be a spam type thing.  I would want opt-in and opt-out links in the newsletter.

Thx. In Advance.

When you import you'll see you can choose to use what is being 'imported' actually as a list of stuff to delete. So you can do an export, then reimport with it set to delete.

Newsletters are separate to members, although the newsletter system may be optionally used to email members too.

Chris,
Thanks for responding.  I am sure I am doing something wrong just a usability issue:

After importing in the CSV in wrong format:

The only way that I have found to export subscribers is to tick download as CSV file:

No list(s) or anything to limit fields on re-importing:

Nothing gets processed  ^^^

This is what I was importing:

after import I still have the same mis-formatted subscribers.

When exporting or importing I do not get a choice of fields or anything to delete. and when I manualy deleted and imported the "blank" CSV nothing has changed.

I know it's something I am doing wrong... or in the wrong place or something.

Thx. For any help.  ~larryg1957

You're right, there is a big usability issue here!

The deletion feature is only available is a non-default option is enabled, I did not realise.

Admin Zone > Setup > Configuration > Feature options > Newsletter…
Check "Enable interest levels".
You will then find you can use the import as a delete feature as I said.

You can turn interest levels off again when you're done.

I will resolve the usability issue for the next patch release.

Hi Chris,
I tried all possible imports base on on levels of interest.  This is not working. What I want is to have a totaly "blank" empty subscription list.  With no entries for any of the fields.

I don't have any "real" subscribers yet.  When I was trying to import my CSV file I didn't have enough "," for all the fields (my fault), for the surname, name, fields.

So after import the first email address went in fine, then the second email address went to the first email name field, third email address went to surname field ect.

I just want to "clear" all entrys back to "blank" no entry. and start again.

Even importing select levels of interest does not over write or delete the invalid entries which I screwed up in the first place.

Any Idea how I can get back to having virgin subscriber list with no entries in any fields?

Thanks in Advance…

The UI has a lot of problems, but I don't think there's a bug.

I've made this screencast on the latest v9 code. The next patch release is coming out very soon, so should hopefully be easier.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the responce and video.  That is what I did my "import.csv"  was a spreadsheet with the following format.....

And no entries. but when I view subscribers it is still the same.  What is the format and content of your import.csv?  Is there an easy way to get back to a "no entry" subscribers list like the one you previewed that just said none for all levels of interest?

This is partially a UI issue, But the most of it is my fault for importing in the wrong format, it seems there would be an easy way to "nullify" all erroneous entries and have a blank subscribers list as a result.

I don't think this is a bug .... it should be easy to correct on my side but I am failing to succeed....:(

Thanks for all your time in this matter.

This was my CSV (ocPortal is pretty flexible with these, so I made a very simple one)…

Code

email
chris@ocportal.com
foo@ocportal.com

Note that I imported this to add them, then imported this to remove them. You never import a blank CSV (which seems to be what you have above – even though it is structured with some headings).

Note also it was very confusing in 9.0.5 in terms of seeing if the newsletter was blank. It would show the people as still on, even though their subscription level was set to unsubscribed. That's technically true - it keeps the accounts, but knocks off the subscriptions. But very confusing to see.

So in summary, I think either you're importing a blank CSV and not realising that you import a CSV of what you want rid of – OR – you actually have already got rid of the subscriptions, but the UI is confusing you because it shows the newsletter accounts that have no subscriptions.

Anyway, hopefully 9.0.6 is a lot clearer. I'd suggest disabling the 'interest levels' option again now.

FIX Finally!!!

After exporting the CSV then importing the same file about five times with the unsubscribe feautre update selected.  It worked I now a totally blank subscribe list.  Yah!

Thx. Chris.

I'm using 9.0.5 the update said I really didn't need to go to 9.0.6….

But would this have been less confusing if I had up-patched to 9.0.6?

Thx. Again
