Chris,

The expiry auto-move feature works great for what I'm doing with the catalog system, but…

Sometimes it would be even better to create a catalog category where members can't create new entries in it, but I would like to be able to use the expiry feature to auto-move member's entries into it from another category. Basically, have an option when creating a catalog category which allows expiry auto-move into it but not member entry creation into it.

Currently if I take away a member's permission to create an entry, it also takes away the ability to use the expiry auto-move into it.

If this is possible i'll add it to the tracker.

Hi,

As noted in another reply to you, it looks like your account is not an admin one. I reckon you have removed permission from your own 'admin' account to add to this category, not just regular members.

It should be possible just fine, so long as the account adding/editing the catalogue category has access to view and submit to, the target category.

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I just set up another test run. Took away my test member's permissions to add an entry into  Category B, but allowed my regular user to add an entry into the same Category B.

Using both members, I then created 1 new entry each into Category A.

  • Category A: permission for all to create an entry
  • Category B: test member no permission to create entry, regular member permission to create entry.

Both Category A entries should move into Category B in 24 hours. This was not happening before.

I'll report back tomorrow the results.

Been rather busy the past 4 days and finally got back to testing this.

This appears to be working properly now since making the change to the admin account.
