9.0.3 -> 9.0.4

Launching the upgrader using the "Launch upgrader" button gives an error, but launching the upgrader from the tools menu works with no error.

[edit:] This is in both Chrome and Firefox.

This is the ocPortal upgrade tool. This tool is a part of ocPortal, but it is intentionally kept lightweight to keep it working even if ocPortal is partly broken.

Critical error - bailing out

Connection interrupted when downloading http://ocportal.com/uploads/website_specific/ocportal.com/scripts/fetch_release_details.php?news_id=323&from_version=9.0.3 (307 bytes expected, 2 bytes received).
Integrity check

If you think this problem could be due to corruption caused by a failed upgrade (e.g. time-out during extraction), check the following integrity check…

These files do not match the ones bundled with your version, but claim to be newer (so these might be bug fixes someone has put here):

sources/caches.php
sources/files2.php
sources/ocf_members_action2.php

Hmmmmm…..!!

Not helpful to you sholzy but I'm not getting the 'Critical error' thingy.

I mention it to balance the reports we've been making …

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Interesting… I got it on three different browsers on two different operating systems. Clicking on the button doesn't go straight to the error. The error is after you put in your password.

Nope.

It is behaving 'as-expected' in the first few clicks. I haven't actually done the upgrade, because it helps to try and replicate your issue NOT actually going all the way (… ooerrrrr … that could have been misinterpreted if taken out of context), but you know what I mean!

I'll wait to do the upgrade on the 'clone' until you've resolved your issue, and I'll try it out in the other browsers, including IE10. No hurry.

I've done the upgrade with no issues on my live site via the tools menu.

Using the "launch" button you won't even get to the upgrade screen once you put in your password and click the login button.

Using the "launch" button the same error occurs using Linux with both Chrome and Firefox, and on Windows XP with both Chrome and IE8.

Sounds like an intermittent network problem somewhere, "Connection interrupted when downloading" isn't one of our errors, but it seems to have happened when downloading the upgrade file at that point.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

That's what I thought at first too because my host hasn't been reliable lately. If it was an intermittent network problem, I wouldn't expect it always happen using the "launch" button and never happen when going through the Tools menu.

I created a Jing video but I get a file extension error when I try to upload it.

I just looked in the mirror and saw I had egg on my face. This is an ocPortal error, but I don't think anyone's had it before. It is very likely it is related to the avatar editing bug fix I made for you.

You were right sholzy. This was because when I fixed that bug for you, I only gave you half the fix – or if you didn't apply it, the bug was still there. It was failing to download the URL of a small release info file, which the automated button calls. The downloader bug had a higher chance of occurring on smaller files, and would not happen on all servers; it was a complex bug relating to how download streams got buffered. But it was fixed in 9.0.4 so all is okay, no new bug here.

As much as you have on your plate, you're allow to have egg on your face once in awhile.  ;)

So, a banner image is basically handled the same way as an avatar in the way it is presented by the system?

I didn't apply the fix because I would just update instead since it was in the new update, which is how I came across the bug trying to update. It's that chicken/egg thing…  O_o

Whoops yes, but I meant to say avatar images. All these upload-turns-to-URL fieldset things are handled in the same way.

Santa, I've been very naughty this year. You can sit on my lap and I'll tell you all about it.  :christmas:
