Hopefully this is an easy one:

In my new site, I'm using the main_news block within my right hand panel.  When I post a news item, it's also displaying the posters avatar, which really isn't necessary.

I've hunted to see if I could find were I turn that option off, but I don't seem to be able to find it.  If anyone could advise here, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you!

Mark

I am not positive but I think you may want to edit the NEWS_BOX.tpl file in your templates directory and remove the img tag that refers to "Avatar".

I had done the same thing with my site about a year ago and if I remember correctly that was the template I edited. There is a thread around here somewhere about that same thing (which I used as a guide).

Whenever I try to change NEWSBOX.tpl, it 404 errors me and says "You don't have permission to access /adminzone/index.php on this server". Even though I can visit the link manually and it works fine.

That's probably a 500 error – it'll be a mod_security error. You'll find a lot written about that around here, basically you need to shout at the web host.

Thanks for a fast response. Anything specific that I should tell them? It seems to do this a lot when editing many things. Like menus, blocks and sometimes even regular pages.

I told my host (namecheap) what was going on. I sent them to your link, a few minutes later they told me to try again and it worked! Thanks Chris!

Now on to the news_box.tpl

I removed this:

Code

<div class="newscat_img newscat_img_member">
            {+START,IF,{$NOT,{$MOBILE}}}{+START,IF_NON_EMPTY,{$AVATAR,{SUBMITTER}}}
                <img src="{$AVATAR*,{SUBMITTER}}" title="{!AVATAR}" alt="{!AVATAR}" />
            {+END}{+END}

            {+START,IF,{$NOT,{$MOBILE}}}{+START,IF,{$OCF}}{+START,IF_NON_EMPTY,{$OCF_RANK_IMAGE,{SUBMITTER}}}
                <p>{$OCF_RANK_IMAGE,{SUBMITTER}}</p>
            {+END}{+END}{+END}
        </div>

and the avatar/author went away. If anyone wants before and after screenshots I can provide them.

Yeah you might want to put the first line you deleted back. It is for the Category image so if your article has a category image then it shows up. It is nothing related to Avatar. Otherwise, good job. Glad you got it sorted.  ;)

Thank you. I do have catagory images, yet it doesn't show on my page anyways for some reason. Might be a setting. It does show when I share the url on Facebook.

I think I will put it back, but change the image so that it catches the eyes better on Facebook.

Thanks Tim and the others for your help with this one.  I don't know what I'd do without the support around here :)

Christmas wishes to all!

I remember this from last year and wanted to apply it to one of my sites that's running version 8, but I don't see the news_box.tpl in the list on version 8??

Is this handled in a different template for that version?

Thank you!
