So I have a catalog based form on a number of sites, and they are all exhibiting the same odd behavior:  I have a field defined as "email address", and when I test the form, if I don't enter an email address in the standard format (test@test.com), then it generates an error and won't let me submit the form...which is exactly what I want.

However, I get countless junk submissions, from all of my OCPortal sites, all of which show that the submitter has somehow completed the form, including the email field... WITHOUT entering an email address?

Is this a bug or can someone explain how the robots seem to be able to make the field accept a non-email address format, when I cannot?

I'm including a few screen captures to show:  1)  the junk comment info that was submitted and emailed to me.  2)  The settings for that specific catalog field.  3)  That when I try and complete the form without a valid email formatted in that field, the program gives me an error (as it should).

Keep in mind, I get this same thing on all the OCP sites I have (5 in total) running flavors of version 8 and version 9.  Any ideas???

This email, is this meant to be from the main_contact_catalogues block?

One possibility is if you have multiple contact blocks on the same screen. We're fixing it in v10, but prior versions cannot distinguish them, so filling in one fills in all that are defined on the same screen. You may think it is main_contact_catalogues, but if you have main_contact_simple on the same screen, you may actually be seeing what that is emailing you.

Yes, the email example I provided was from using the main_contact_catalogues block.

There is only one contact block used on the entire site (again, the same for all my OCP sites), so consequently, there is only one on the page as well.

This issue has been filed on the tracker as issue #1646, with a fix.

Thank you, Chris.  Can I use the same hot fix on my version 8 sites as well?

No, this will almost certainly break a v8 site. I don't think we'll be back-porting this, so you're best off just setting up a mail filter rule so anything without an "@" in the body but matches otherwise, gets deleted. Never underestimate the usefulness of mail filter rules.
