Hey folks.

I've read a few places there this error is discussed, but I tried the fixes from those, and they did not change the problem.

I am getting the: Non-closed brace or directive in template on line 1 error.

At: www.indyfestusa.com (and 3 of the other satellite sites as well, But I'll assume it's the same problem on all of them)

I have the main site 100% working: www.dimestoreproductions.com and the main satellite: www.selfpubmag.com is now working fine.

The Admin area of the indyfest site is working, it's the public pages that are tossing that error. I deleted the recommend site link from the menu as suggested elsewhere. I have tried to get a stack trace on this, it won't give me one. safe mode not working. These are default, unchanged, and re-uploaded to make sure 9.0.2 files, integrity checker shows no problems at all.

This is after running upgrade from 8.1.3 - but it worked fine on the main site and one satellite, so not sure that's an issue on why here.

Any insight appreciated!

Go to the menu editor /adminzone/?page=admin_menus, edit the root_website menu (I think it's that), and either delete the recommend link or change to _SEARCH:recommend:from={$SELF_URL&,0,0,0,from=<null>}.

arg, now, I swear I deleted BOTH the links on that very menu after reading another thread with this problem. I didn't bother going back to the view to look and make sure they were gone, when that didn't work. So imagine my surprise when I just went back there, and they were back. I tried to delete them again, they will not delete. They did however, accept the new link info, and save correctly, so now the site is working. I am eliminating that menu anyway from active use, so now that I'm in I'm good. If anyone else runs into the problem of it not working when they delete the entry…reload the menu and watch the link reappear!

When you deleted the node, did you save it after? A deletion isn't actualised until the menu is saved.

Problem of many contemporary UIs that auto-save is that it breaks established conventions – can be disasterous to some people if unexpected auto-save happens, or for some creates false expectations if other UIs don't auto-save.

I've been relying on others for template/code updating and maintenance for far too long…I recently took that back over and now have all my sites updated with new V9 templates in place…my biggest obstacle to getting all this stuff done, was me!
