When I try creating a new news category I'm getting the message:
An image code (comcode_emoticon) was referenced that does not exist

I'm not even choosing a emoticon, and I have the category image set to NA

Hi,

We introduced a new themes/default/images/comcode_emoticon.png in one of the recent releases. This file must be missing from your site for some reason.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

And so it is.
I just installed this site yesterday using the auto installer for 4.2, but I can see that indeed themes/default/images/comcode_emoticon.png is no where to be found. Is there a link that I can just download the image files, or do I need to try and re-install the entire site?

Actually looking now, I have two sites that I just install 4.2 on, and it is missing from both sites.

I uploaded the image file.  However, I'm still not able to select NA, and had to choose one of the existing icons to be able to create new News Categories.

News categories do require an icon.

There is actually a bug in 4.2.0 for IE8 that forces you to use an existing icon instead of uploading a new one. Perhaps this is what you're getting. We'll fix that soon.

Cool.  Didn't think to try it in FF, but will.  Should know better.  As far as accessibility goes FF does a better job with ocp than ie does.  Now if I could just get the screen reader team's to support FF better Id have it made.
