A couple days ago I upgraded to 9.04 which resulted in a huge cluster of madness on my site's layout. Fortunately I was able to straighten everything out, but there's one problem I can't seem to figure out.

If I try to edit any page, the "add" selections for comcode blocks, tags, etc is no longer present. Sometimes it will be present as the page loads but then vanishes approximately 1 second later. I've captured some screens to explain it better.

Here is what editing a page looks like while it's loading. The "add" function is visible:

1 second later, after the page loads, it vanishes so that the page looks like this:
http://negaverse.net/img/comcode-gone.jpg

I use Firefox as my main browser but when I tried it on IE I still had the same problem, so I'm not sure what is causing this. Either way, I'm unable to reach the 'add' feature and cannot add any blocks or other features as a result.

Another issue I've noticed is that if I'm trying to edit the pre-existing "side_news" menu by double clicking on it, I've lost the ability to scroll or save changes:

However I was able to bypass this by using the arrows on my keyboard to scroll up and down. To save a change I click inside one of the fields and hit enter on my keyboard. Still, it can be rather clumsy. I noticed that any pop-ups on the site have lost the ability to scroll.

I've looked through the bug fixes and read the forum and it doesn't sound like anyone else is having this issue, so I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing? Could it be browser-related?

Honoured member

I was about to suggest what you mentioned in the last line of your post.  From what I read, the first thing that comes to mind is a browser issue.  I know I have had very different behaviors exhibited between IE and Firefox as an example, and I've gone so far as to only edit my sites using Firefox anymore.

If you haven't already given it a shot, try the functions you talk about in your post using an entirely different browser and let us know!

I tried it in Google Chrome and it's still giving me the same issue. I'm quite baffled!

You may have a problem with missing or miss-installed JavaScripts. Try this workaround:

Disable Javascript overlays by following this link:
Admin Zone-->Setup-->Configuration-->> Accessibility
'Enable Javascript overlays' (remove check-mark to disable)

Okay, quick summary/recap:
  1. Disappearing buttons
  2. Missing scrollbar

1 is not a bug, it's actually a feature change. I think it was in v8 where we redesigned these buttons to be fully integrated into WYSIWYG – it's still there, but it's within the WYSIWYG toolbars now.

2 has been reported before for Firefox but not reproduced. I'm taking another look now.

Fix for 2…

In themes/default/templates/JAVASCRIPT_MODALWINDOW.tpl, change:

Code

                  'scrolling': browser_matches('ie')?'auto':'no',
to:

Code

                  'scrolling': (browser_matches('ie') || browser_matches('gecko'))?'auto':'no',

And clear the template cache (under Admin Zone > Tools > Website cleanup Tools).

(Firefox apparently doesn't support dynamic addition of scrollbars to iframes)

Ah, disabling the javascript overlay has done the trick! You're also correct, the buttons were moved down into the WYSIWYG toolbars. Once the scrolling was enabled again it was easier to see it (it didn't have a pop-up label, and I couldn't scroll to see all the options within it).

Thank you!
