Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS, which is now in beta. ocPortal 9 will be superseded by Composr 10.

Head over to compo.sr for our new site, and to our migration roadmap. Existing ocPortal member accounts have been mirrored.

Ermmmmmm…, don't know where to start, but would invite Chris to visit and see for himself.

Some of the weirdness observed - in no particular order:
  • expand/contract buttons send page to the top (it is calling /start#)
  • all other 'function' buttons refuse to react, hence unable to actually 'edit' anything
  • all contextual CSS edit features have disappeared from the “Select page rendering tool”
  • cannot edit/change any parameters in the 'Setup' menus as the 'Save' button is no longer functional
  • gradient tooltip boxes that displayed as gradients before are now displaying as a flat background
  • site has been closed, but it had to be done via the upgrader tool
  • drop-down menus are no longer displaying as drop-down on the Admin page
This is NOT browser-specific. Tested with same result in 4 browsers.

This is NOT an add-on problem (js, Flash, whatever!) as other ocPortal sites, including this one, react as expected.

This appears to be 9.0.4-specific as another cloned site, still running 9.0.3, is working perfectly normally!

There are a number of PHP errors in the log, all referring to CRON and mail.php failing, and my mail queue is starting to grow exponentially as I am being hit by Chinese-pimplies yet again. Those mails are almost certainly addressed to me, reporting the automatic bans that are occurring! There MAY be a connection, but I am loathe to stick my neck out.

Merry Christmas, and HO-freakin'-HO!'

:christmas:

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Rogue arrow on the lhs of this line, which was my fix to a Firefox overlay problem. Can't remember if I put that arrow in by mistake but should not be there. Kills JS initialisation.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Email log is showing "already sent" emails.

The log is dual function, shows queue, but also past sent emails up to a cutoff point (useful for debugging).

Thanks for the information and assistance, Chris. Mail queues have now cleared.

HOWEVER

Initial screw-up of site continues. No buttons are reacting, hence unable to go 'forward' (edit or add) OR 'backward' (restore to previous state).

Any advice as to how to 'recover' would be of immense help. Never come across this situation before!

*BUMP*

Well, not actually a *bump*, just an update!

Site is back up and healthy once again. It took several mind-blowing hours of checking back to see what 'hotfixes' had been inserted in the last couple of weeks, WinMerge them all, make 'decisions' as to what had been changed and whether it could have had an impact. Then it was a case of manually FTPing the files to overwrite the stuff on the server.

Why FTP? Simple - I couldn't go backward or forward using the software - not even in safe mode. All the buttons were ineffective, and no amount of editing would work if the 'Save' button - didn't!

Lesson to the unwary: don't take 'hotfixes' that were not specifically designed to sort out a problem that YOU had. And if you do, test your site immediately to see that nothing 'gets broke'!

I say that because I think I snatched a 'fix' for an MSN setup, and I don't run any. How cool is that?

Or stoooooopid?

Merry Christmas to all.
