Well-settled

I was thinking about this. Which version of ocPortal will the book be based on. If it's 8.1.1 then some of it will need to be revised very soon with V9 in the works. If its V9 then things may change as the book is being written. And V10 has already been mentioned at least once.

So which version of ocPortal will the book be based on.

I would suggest v9 and update it as V10 takes shape and time the release of V10 and the book to be similar perhaps?

Yes

Hmmmmmm, I think that's an 'affirmative' on my part!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Functionality-wise, not much will change from v8 to v10.

v9 is a design job
v10 is a performance job

So I think it'll be little impact.

Screenshots would be taken last I think anyway, after initial drafting.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

My opinion is that the book should be based on v9 and updated when v10 is released. As Chris points out, much will remain the same from v8 through v9 and v10 with the exception of screenshots.
