Do you use 'Zones' on your site(s)?

Do we need to cover zones in the book and, if so, at what level?

Maby in advanged Bob, most starting webmasters have are happy when they get it working like the standard install.

ZONES NEEDS to be discussed. EVERY site uses Zones Whether it is a single zone or not. This "Zone" Terminology is confusing to someone who's never heard it before and it is asked right in the installation steps!

Nothing on my site suggests I have zones, but in reality there are 11 zones. The four main ones are Welcome, Admin, Forums, and Content Management. The balance are a few addons enhancements (for you, Bob) I've installed and several I have created.

Do we need to cover them? Yes.  Zones could be put in the miscellaneous chapter along with all those other little things that need to be covered but are not important enough to have their own chapter.

This was basically my thought. ocPortal comes default with zones but I wonder how many really use this capability when setting up their first ocPortal site.

This book is for Beginners as it seems to be steering towards and I can tell you as someone who is not a beginner I was (and still am actually) a little confused about the words ZONES which was almost one of the very first terms introduced to me when I first installed so ZONES needs to be explained upfront near the beginning so when a user sees it on the first or second page of install they know what the heck a ZONE is so they are not left scratching their head going "How do I answer this question about Zones when I have no idea what a blodoy zone is???"

This could be handled in the "List of important terms" included in the introduction.

Like Duck, zones confused me a bit when I first started with ocp. Not the concept, but how it was used.

I can't even remember what the exact problem was but it had something to do with the welcome zone, and maybe a welcome/start page.

And I know I definitely had problems when I renamed and/or deleted a zone.

So they definitely need to be explained and demonstrated as a strength of ocPortal.
