I've checked with Chris and he agrees that it makes sense for us to start writing the book based on v9beta. This approach means there will be fewer changed needed when we update the book to reflect a concurrent release with v10.

While everyone is certainly free to install version v9beta on their own, I have asked Harry-S if he can install and maintain a version of v9beta for the purpose of writing the book. Obviously, this also makes us beta testers for v9beta which means we are actually helping to accomplish much more than just writing the book. Please make sure to report any issues you encounter to the developers and please make certain that you are using v9beta as the basis of your writing.

I intend to post little news blurbs here as warranted.

guess I'm the only one looking for an ocportal book. since this post is over two months old and I'm the only one to view it. would love something with case studies or walkthrough setup of a site.

Hi Tim,

Driving the book forward is on hold at the moment, while BobS goes through medical treatment, but that leaves plenty of time for writers (and potential writers) to plan things and get a start.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
