Current WYSIWYG editor doesn't support or isn't supported by Konqueror

Greetings,

May I request the following module,

A WYSIWYG editor that supports Konqueror.

You see, I have grown to love the WYSIWYG editor in ocPortal. And I have come to realize that ocPortal works and looks very good in the KDE browser, Konqueror. Since Konqueror is my favorite browser due to speed, power, and kde integration, I much want to use Konqueror for my daily needs.

However I have also just realized that the WYSIWYG editor in ocPortal cannot be used in Konqueror. Instead you have to use the basic comcode editor. Which is fine and all… however I have been spoiled by the WYSIWYG editor. If I want to use that editor though I have to use Firefox… and nothing wrong with Firefox but it does not integrate very well into KDE (I only have basic integration after lots of messing around with it) nor is it as fast or really as useful for me as a webmaster as Konqueror is.

So I must ask, beg, plead… Please make an addon that can give me a WYSIWYG editor as nice as the one being used now, but that can be used in Konqueror.

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

That would be nice and if it works with Konqueror I assume it will them be able to work with google chrome.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Most likely since Chrome uses webkit which is built from KHTML. This should also prove true for Safari.

Yep thats why I mentioned it.
Although one thing I like about ocportal is it does work with safari unlike another script I used for a while that did not work and upset a lot of my members.

Any way I hope this gets added.

Hi,

Thanks for your comments, both of you :).

It would indeed be nice if our WYSIWYG editor worked on all the browsers mentioned here, and they do indeed share a lot in common.

It's not something we could resolve in the short term as we didn't write the WYSIWYG editor itself. But it's definitely something we're aware of, and I might go as far as to say we have some kind of plan about it.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
