Some things I'd love to have

Greetings,

Here are some things I'd love to have. I realize that these are not things that would be used by everyone so thusly I am asking for at least an add on for these.

Shopping Cart/osCommerce Integration: I think that one of the things that has plagued me lately is trying to set up a store for the site. It is very easy to set up something in ocPortal, except that I can't seem to do a shopping cart. I also realize that a shopping cart is not included in ocPortal. So instead I have had to decide upon an outside shopping cart solution and have thusly went with oscommerce. But the problem is that people would have to register for it as well and those who already have memberships for the site would have to get a separate membership and separate log in just for the store portion. Really… not what I'd rather have. Plus the store doesn't match my site but I imagine that could be changed with theming.

So what add on I'd like to see is a shopping cart for ocPortal, one that I can use with the already present download function to simply add a cost in real currency instead of points, and have it set up to use paypal for the payment gateway. That too me would be the most ideal solution as it would already make use of the functions of ocportal and simply add a way to charge for downloads in currency instead of points.

However if this deems impossible I'd also settle for integration with oscommerce like you have with the other forums software out there. Though I have to say that the first option would be much more useful to me and probably others.

ocPortal Site Directory
This isn't really an addon..  However I find that this would prove not only useful for site admins giving them more link backs to help with their traffic growth, but also ocPortal showcasing the sites that are built upon this marvelous software and thus exposing it's name out there even more.

Thanks for your time those who read this. I can't promise any money for such made add-ons. I'm poor ATM as I fear many others are becoming in this trying economic time. However if you are into table top rpg's I'd gladly give you a pdf of my product (Legacies of the Artificer) for free it sells for $15.00USD).

How about a paypal button instead of the download buttton, and you send the dl by mail (or send a link if it's too big)?
If you don't have too many things on offer, this can work (had an ocp site with a couple of these, in a previous life).
Not as elegant as an integrated cart, but can be a decent workaround.

Would you happen to have the comcode for 2 column layout on V4?

Eh.. I much rather a shopping cart like function where as soon as the person pays for their product they get the  download. But yes in some ways the paypal button thing would work… However that is only another quick fix like what I am doing now so I'd still love to have this addon.

And sorry, I don't have a 2 column comcode  code. Surely someone else does? Or if it doesn't exist in this version it could be made by making a custom comcode?

osCommerce < — > ocPortal bridge would be an amazing thing.

Chris, in your opinion, would this be a matter of creating a bridge layer between the user tables of the two packages or would there be more to it?

Essentially. When one joins on ocp a bit of code runs to create an equiv user on oscommerce. Then the auth code for oscommerce gets fudged a bit to recognise ocp sessions. Then the oscommerce login functions are fudged to point to ocp's login screen which can be requested to redirect back to oscommerce post-login. Then a bit of work would be done to try and make ocp and oscommerce look the same and make a seamless navigation between.

This isn't the ideal solution, but it's by far the cheapest. Ideally ocPortal would have it's own cart, as then you'd have the full power of ocPortal features and be able to mix things up more (e.g. product blocks). I can't talk about our plans as such but I have said before that this is something we want to do, and also that if a properly budgeted project comes along then we'd do it for it.

Since there appears to be some work/headaches involved to create a community authored/supported bridge that would end up not being the most elegant solution and ocProducts has a shopping cart on their radar, I would then suggest that it's best to wait unless one has a real pressing need. Right. I can continue to use oscommerce in the mean time, and if I had extra funds I'd even pay for a shopping cart addon. But since I don't I can be patient :P

But yes I completely feel that a shopping cart would be the best route as it could easily make use of all the awesome tools that ocPortal already has.
