has anyone got the referral addon by chris graham to work?
this one: http://ocportal.com/site/downloads/entry/addons/ocportal-8-0/new-features_7/referrals.htm

the installation worked successfully i believe (shows up in the addons). but i can not tell how it works. i figure there would be a field in the join registration page to put who referred the registrant...but there isnt. in the instruction, i can not find what is mentioned in #1 in the setup menu. i unzipped referrals.tar file and found the files in #1 and 2 of your instructions but i dont know what to put in #1. can you give an example? i need more detailed instructions please. i would really like to use this on my site as i plan on using referrals as my main source of traffic. sorry, new to ocportal and seeing whether its the cms that fits my needs. i really like it and has so many features. thanks.

I'll take a look soon :). All the addons are automatically packaged by a script, so sometimes there are issues in the packagaging process.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I just ran a test and it seemed to install okay for me, with the 'Referrer' field showing up on the OCF join form.

Could it have failed to extract correctly? The code that shows the field is the sources_custom/ocf_join.php file.
