I decided to have some fun today:

Great, I'd really like OpenID support. I just can't make it actually work, though…

I'm trying on a trial site to determine whether ocPortal is a viable alternative to what we have now - it's a community website, not commercial.
OpenID support is on my "must-have" list.

I've installed a 6.0.2 first and then this add-on, but I don't see any references to OpenID when I go to join or login as a new user. What am I missing and/or doing wrong?

Yes, the site runs php5 and has openssl support.

Sincerely,
TorBenT

Hi,

First thing of note is we're linking to the v5 version here.
Attachment
themes/default/templates/JAVASCRIPT_JQUERY.tpl
» Download: JAVASCRIPT_JQUERY.tpl (160 Kb, 213 downloads so far)

Second thing is I just checked and we haven't bundled Jquery correctly into this addon. Attached.

OK. I'm quite sure I downloaded this version. Is it supposed to work with 6.0 or is there a "6.0-compatible" version somewhere else? Or is there no OpenID support in 6.0 yet?
Mind you, I wasn't easily able to actually download a v5 distribution …

Will it work with your extra JQuery file? Is it just supposed to go onto the site via ftp or somesuch or will I be better off putting it into a new tar file and upload that to my site?

Thanks,
TorBenT

If you browse via the site or from inside ocPortal's addons section, or by going up from the breadcrumbs of the above link then down the tree again, you'll find the v6 version.
Just put the JQuery file on the server in the path given above.

Err, I'm beginning to feel a little lost here  O_o

I follow your link, go up the crumbs, down via "Version 6.0" into "Third-party Integrations" and end up here: Third Party Integration - ocPortal

I'm pretty sure I've been there before.
There I find: amazon affiliates, amazon wishlist, aviary, ebay store, facebook support, justgiving, lastfm. No mention of OpenID.

So I go (again) to my site's Add-on section, into Import third-party add-on, expand Third-party Integration and find the same 7 add-ons as mentioned above.
It's also not on the "core list" (except the 1.0 version I've uploaded as tarball - was that wrong?)

Where do YOU find it that I cannot? Oh, I also did a search for openid on ocportal.com and the only thing I find is a note that it's "not supported via the IPB forum driver" and this thread.

Sincerely,
TorBenT - by the way, those security images are *really* annoying and hard to read!

Ah, sorry about this, it didn't get uploaded for v6 due to a glitch. Here it is:
Download: OpenID - ocPortal

These addons are not really official. Most have been done by ocProducts (the makers of ocPortal) but they aren't bundled or supported to the same level as those that come bundled as a part of ocPortal.

We have some scripts to upload them each time a major new version comes up and we're maintaining them, but it didn't work quite right this time.

Regarding security images, I think we do better than many out there which are even harder, but it's a fine line between ease and it getting hacked. You can though, if you choose to raise the potential for spam a bit, turn off the 'noise' by disabling the 'Enable CAPTCHA noise' option.

Oh, just to be clear I ensured this v6 version does have jquery bundled in it.

Also you can just install it over the top of what you have already and it will replace it.

Because I have uploaded it to the correct place it now shows in the import thingy inside ocPortal as well, so you can choose to download the TAR and import it as a file, or choose it via the selector inside ocPortal directly.

Thank you, that did the trick
It works fine, too.

Now to try out some of the other things this portal software can do (there's a lot of it!)

Hi Chris,

I'm trying out your openID addon as I am considering using it for my site, and I have a couple of problems.

1) There are no 3rd-party logo's included with the addon:

2) After logging in with google, an account is created on my site, and I appear to be logged in. But as soon as I navigate to another page, It indicates that I am not logged in: and it thinks I am a guest:

I'm surprised the user above you reported it worked  . Sorry about that, there was a nasty glitch in our addon builder that skipped any files with "-" in the name. I have reuploaded the addon, you can just reinstall on top.

As for the other problem, all I can think of off-hand is if you were using keep_su=Guest to test it.

No change Chris!

Although more files were definitely installed, it seems to have made no difference at all.

As for the keep_su=Guest, I don't use the su feature at all. I prefer to to actually log in as the test user.

I flushed all the caches (I always do when I don't get the expected results, just in case).

For the sake of saving time testing where the failed theme image might have cached, I'd recommend just editing the openid CSS file and hard coding all the backgrounds to the actual URLs of the associated files.

I had the same results as Temp1024 but I have found that the openid-icons.png were missing in the 6.0 packages. I had to download the 5.0 package and extract and manually upload to themes/default/images_custom/openid

It all looks correct however the Google and Yahoo buttons do nothing but just refresh the page. All other buttons appear to work but I have not tested them yet.

Google button works for me when I test it now. Clicking it takes me to choose a Google account to log in with, then to the front page.
Only issue was that if I was already logged on (I'd gone to the login page manually) it didn't work, but that's an unnatural situation anyway.
