When using the

Code

Main Facebook Friends (main_facebook_friends)
block in my page as

Code

[block stream="1" fans="10" logobar="1" show_fanpage_link="1" fanpage_name="Visit Us on facebook"]main_facebook_friends[/block]
I am getting the error:

Code

The `href` parameter must reference a valid Facebook page, but "https://facebook.com/1765880242"
is not a valid Facebook page.

I know the the facebook addon is configured correctly and my news and calendar events are being syndicated, so what is causing this error?

Hi,

We are not making this clear enough in the block description, but this block may only be used if ocPortal is configured against a Facebook page (in the "Facebook page ID" setting). It can't show friends of a Facebook user.

By default the "Facebook page ID" setting will populate with the ID of the Facebook user who set up the Facebook addon, which works for some things but not all things.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Ok, I think I'm following.  Since I set the addon up while loged in as "admin" I would need to be loged in as "admin" and not "Chip" for the block to work. Is that correct?

No. It's not to do with your login, it is that the "Facebook page ID" config option has to point to a real page ID, not a member ID. When you authenticate the site you authenticate under your Facebook account and it puts in a default page ID that isn't a page, it's actually your Facebook account, which is a good enough default in some cases but not this case. "Facebook page ID" absolutely has to point to a Facebook page to use this block.
