I'm not exactly sure whats wrong, but every time I click on a category for uploading, its says:
"There was a problem with an AJAX request:
403: Forbidden."
Did I mess up the permissions, or what did  I do wrong.
Thanks

What version is this on, and is it every category? Has it worked before now?

It's on 5.0.3, and no, I just recently installed ocPortal.
By the way, is there a way to make custom ranks?

This is a bit odd, I can't reproduce it. There are no forbidden errors in our server log.
I think it might be coming from your own network somehow. Is there a proxy server or Firewall or something like that that could be blocking it?
Does the version information on your Admin Zone front page work?

As for ranks, it's done via usergroups. Usergroups can have rank images, and a promotion scale. People may be in multiple usergroups.

I don't believe the firewall is the problem, I can access other sites just fine, ans yes the version information works. Heres the error pages:

If you open up the Chrome Developer Tools, go to the Resources tab, enable resource tracking, scroll to the bottom of the resources, and click the expand that causes the error, what URL comes up as the load URL (it'll appear at the bottom of the resources list) and what happens if you open it directly?

I wanted to add that I am having the same issue as well and it seems to have something to do with data/ajax_tree.php and maybe a permissions issue. Currently it is set to 644. Trying to view the link directly in a new tab/window results in a 403 forbidden and a 404 not found (related to error document handling). This is the header information from Chrome:

Its not a big deal to me right now though but I thought I would throw in my two cents since someone else is having the same issue.

Ah.

I believe this is an Apache module called mod_security blocking requests with URLs in parameters. The server is not reporting mod_security as there but I think it is. I'll make v6 workaround this. However, this kind of thing annoys us because the web host (via mod_security) is disabling legitimate expected/standard behaviours in the name of security; if they do that kind of thing they should advertise it clearly as it is a limit/requirement on service. I don't disapprove of mod_security per se, but I disapprove of web hosts not being clear on any limitation/requirement of service and making people work out which hoops to jump through.

Yeah, researched this some more. It fails due to the 'id' parameter being a URL, even if you rename the 'id' parameter to something random like 'foo'. However if you change the domain in that parameter to your own domain rather than ocportal.com it doesn't give an error.
I'll workaround it in v6 by encoding it.

Ok, so what exactly then do I have to do in order for this to work properly?

Currently, you can just complain to the web host. I wrote the workaround for the next version 6 release yesterday.

However, you don't need to use this facility to use the addons. You can download the TAR files from this site and import them by uploading.

There's an upload field in ocPortal you can use instead of the choose field you were using, I think on the same form you were already at.

I just wanted to touch up on this post. I had contacted HostGator support regarding this issue and it is one of their mod_security rules. They had given me the entry in the apache error log that contained the following information:

ticket response at HostGator said

We were able to find the following entry in the Apache error logs when the steps given below were followed:

Don't know if this information will help you out any, but thought I would post it just in case.
