Permissions advice

When someone tries to post on the group's forum, to a post that they have posted to earlier, they get this warning: "sorry, you can't reply at the moment because you don't have double posting permission". I suppose this is for spam and things of that nature but it is a headache for my forum. I have ran the Simple Machine forum program for years but the permissions were simpler. I have looked for an answer on these forums through the search function without success. I think it would be a simple permission's setting but I can't seem to find it. Thanks for any help.

I found this as a rule for this forum but it does not apply to my forum because like I say, I am the only one that reply to my own post:

Do not double post (post consecutively in a topic) on the forum unless…

You have new information to add after several days since your previous post was made
You are bumping a topic after several days of no replies
You are quoting various posts, and feel the need to do so in separate posts

Hi,

OTTOMH…

Admin Zone > Security > Privileges > Forum
Double post permission.

Didn't check, but it's something close to that.

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thank you. That helped me to locate it. I should be able to find most things now. The 2 areas admin zone and forum area threw me a bit. I will know in the future to look in both areas.

One thing I have found very useful is the search function in the admin screen. If you key in a term you are looking for in this case "double posting" it will return a list of admin controls by the admin module they reside in which is even better.

I have found by scrolling through the list you can often find the administration control relating to what you want to do.

If you get a few search terms for items you already know and test it out it will give you a really good idea on how to locate a particular admin function. As you have already found out there are many settings available.
