Well I got it all working, but ...

I've got the Facebook and Activity feeds working on my site now and all seems well.  However, When I post a news item it is showing up on my Facebook timeline/wall twice, but not on the public newsfeed.  I then have to go to my wall and shae the article to have it go public.  I've got my Facebook app that I created set to allow public posting.  Could it be that it is poisting once from my site, and then once from my personal profile since I have it to sendacate?  I'm confused here.

Very possible. If you turned it on for your personal account, just turn it off for that.

I will look into the private/public thing, it's not something we've considered.

I googled around and I found post privacy is a per-user setting on Facebook's end, and the app you create has a default for the users. I don't believe it is something we control.

That is going by this quote:
Go to your facebook profile settings and click apps. Find your app in the list and delete it. Now go to your app again. When you are asked to authorize the app, make sure to choose the public scope for posts made by your app. If you want you can also edit the settings for your app (at developers.facebook.com) and make public the default option, look in the Auth Dialog section.

Thanks Chris.  I knew it was probably on Facebook end as far as not posting to my public news feed.  I thought someone had maybe experienced the same thing.  Now that you've mentioned it seems like I had to do that the first time around with V6, but that was so long ago.  I did go in to my profile on my site and turned off syndication and that did stop the double posting.  I went to developers.facebbok.com and changed the auth scope to public, but there must be another setting some where because it still post to my personal timeline but not to my public news feed.  I'll figure it out though.  thanks for the help.

Auth scope applies to new authorisations. You need to remove the app from your personal Facebook account, and then re-authenticate it.

Yes it did Larry.  It is now posting to my personal timeline but not to the public newsfeed, which I guess it what is suppose to do.  The older version use to post to the newsfeed but ,maybe Facebook has made some changes.

I had this app working perfectly.  Then I went in and set it up so that when my wife, or one of the family, makes a post on our site it also post to my wall.  Now every time I make a post on the site, say a news article or calendar entry, it is posting twice to my wall.  Should I turn off syndication in my personal profile, or would this stop it posting entirely?  Is one of the following config options causing this?

In Admin Zone / Setup / Configuration / Feature Options / Facebook syndication / login - the following is checked:

  • Allow Facebook logins
  • Automatically enable syndication
  • Option to syndicate to a Facebook page

Okay, I was going to answer this in terms of explaining why site activity syndication (news & calendar) is separate to member activity syndication, but that all site activity has a corresponding member activity, hence duplication if they go to the same place. And, that ocPortal was designed to have the Facebook addon primarily linked to a Facebook page rather than Facebook user, so the duplication was due to an unplanned way of the addon being used. However…

I have made a tweak so that it won't offer/do a site activity syndication if the syndication would go to the same place as the member activity syndication. i.e. if the logged in member has member activity syndication on, and the site is configured to syndicate to the same Facebook user, it will skip the site activity syndication to avoid duplication.

I have also made it so that you can blank out the "Facebook page ID" option if you so choose to, and it will just treat this as a desire to disable site activity syndication.

Hmmm, maybe I should've left good enough alone.  Now it isn't syndicating out at all

Let me amend that.  It's syndicating out to Twitter but not Facebook.

Ah. This is now fixed. The "Option to syndicate to a Facebook page" was breaking it because the member syndicating didn't have access to post to the user ID you had as the Facebook page ID option. I've turned "Option to syndicate to a Facebook page" off, and tested – it worked for me.

Thank you.  I'll give it a shot.  I'm sure it would've have worked correctly if I had just removed the faceboook id from my profile, like suggested in an earlier post, however, for some strange reason I'm unable to do anything in my profile. I'm assumeing this is a cross between a browser issue and my screen reader, since my current configuration doesn't support HTML5. Hope to be upgrading my screen reader in a couple of weeks so I can upgrade to the latest version of IE.
