Moving forward with Composr

ocPortal has been relaunched as Composr CMS, which is now in beta. ocPortal 9 will be superseded by Composr 10.

Head over to compo.sr for our new site, and to our migration roadmap. Existing ocPortal member accounts have been mirrored.

I would like to see how someone has utilized this as well. I am very interested in setting it up for my clan site as well. If no one else posts I will post when I have it figured out on my site. Which may be a while as I am setting up lots of other stuff first.

I'm in the process of creating a couple of realms, just creating the "floor plan" now, no images yet. I haven't opened it up to my members yet.

With enough players, it looks like it could be kinda fun.

I installed and poked around at it and it indeed looks like fun and drew huge interest from my site members (even though I hadnt set up any realms or anything). I had planed out several interconnected realms and all for an interesting plot and story line but have yet to implement because I sort of feel the system needs a little more to make it truly enticing. I think it needs some more options for  causing damage or repair to players including the ability to attack each other. And as well some other item capabalities such as trading and stealing etc. I poked around looking at the code and I believe I could add some of these features quite easily myself but it still would be a lot of work without a thorough knowledge yet of the frameworks innner workings. That coupled with the importance of this tasks priority leaves me kind of hesitant about the fact that it is something I will ever have time to get around to doing. In other words I seriously doubt it unless I had someone to colaborate and share the load with.So bottom line is it is nice and is a great foundation for a cool add-on but is lacking alot to make it worth the effort to go through setting up I think.

I'm definitely going to try this out on v8, I have plans to turn it into more of a Biker club from hell kind of thing instead of a dungeon, we'll see. :)

We have it going on Southern Rider (a motorcycle site)... There is a lot of swearing and cursing as the object is to find the red Ducati key... and I as the owner of the red key keep them on the move it is slowly coming along and evolving... but I think there need to be more options added to what you can do with objects and the like etc...

The first level is open guns members can do what the like with in reason make there own rooms and expand it to the maxium size... where members barter, trade and steal, beg and borrow items to get around and find the keys...

but the keys are hidden in the 1 of the other 5 other realms which only I can add rooms and items etc...
to get to realm 5 you have to get through 2, 3 and 4 etc. and find the the different key to get to the next level.

I am currently working on a modification of this Addon.

I have modified the Hurt and Heal options to accept an integer parameter for the admin to allow for Hurting or healing more than 1 point.

As well I am building a simple attack between members option which will work as follows:

It checks to see who has the most health Whichever is healthier gets a 25% of not getting hurt while the other gets a 15% chance of not getting hurt. If health is the same they both have a 20% chance of not getting hurt.
Otherwise both the attacker and defender can be hurt a random amount from 1 to all their current health.

If one person dies in the attack the other inherits their items. If both persons die then all their items are dropped in the room.

Because of the modifications to the heal and hurt option this also means healthy items can produce a random healing  of 1 to doubling the current users health.  (there max healing will be a minimum of 10 if current health is less than that.)

This is just a simple set of Code changes and I have made no database changes at all. Maybe in the future we will modify the database to allow items to have preset healing/hurting values and a few other cool tweaks (we shall see).

I was wondering if Nighthawk you would be willing to help test it when I am done?

Wow, that's really cool :). ocWorld was a really fun little project to do all those years ago. We had it running on a Star Trek fan site and had dozens of really imaginative realms, some with hundreds of rooms. Some multi-deck starships were build using it :lol:.

So I think it's great that this is being embraced and taken further.

@Chris - Yeah it's a great addon. Really peaks the interest of users on my site when I had it up briefly for testing. I hadn't built any rooms or realms or anything but everybody was in there trying to peak around.  With the option to attack or hurt/heal more the quests can start to become more elaborate.

 I just want to make this simple mod for now and then later I will try my hand at modifying the DB to let rooms have hurt heal options (like a trap or rest lodge) and items to have a negative (hurt) or positive (heal) integer value. One other modification I would like to maybe look at (if I don't get ahead of myself here) is to designate a realm or set of rooms as an "Inn" where you can rent for a time a safe place to rest or store items that comes with a temp password which is reset when you leave. This sort of can be done already buy allowing room purchases but they need to be added each time where as I want something permanent which users can rent then leave and let the next user utilize the space. This can keep maps well design I think.

It's absolutely fabulous (see what i've done there?) to see more people working on themes and mods for ocPortal. Add this to additional community support for developer-made feature  enhancements, and I think we are seeing a substantial improvement to the whole ocPortal ecosystem.

Ok this is done and so far all the testing has seemed like it all works well. There is one area I am not 100% sure is still working because  I can only test it when I get lucky is some minor modifications to the TROLL actions when you meet a troll. When I met him I answered the question right and all was fine but I have yet to meet him again to see if everything works ok when I get the answer wrong lol so for now I don't know if that part is perfect. I would like to test with anyone running it before making an official release. Any takers???

What's been modified?

Admin can now hurt or heal any number of points to a person.

Using a health object will heal a random value from 1 to the current value of a persons health.

Members can attack one another with advantages going to the person with more health. Both can be hurt or die though.

If only one dies the others carried items transfers to the victor.

If both die the drop  all their items n that room for anyone to pick up.

There are 8 random messages each for each person hurt or killed (a total of 32 messages)

Some existing templates and functions were slightly modified to accommodate my new functions.

For instance take_items comes with an extra parameter now so you can use it take items between members instead of just the troll. If you call it without the second parameter though it gives the items to the troll as usual.

Hurt and heal have been modified to accept a value to hurt or heal or to create it's own random hurt value from 1 to current health based on the member id passed.

Added a kill_member function so that when someone dies from attack or hurt etc you can just call that to reset them back to lobby with 10 health. It does not take items so that should be done before calling it.

The trolls we have in the ocWorld realms could be given AI, then ocWorld installs could be connected together to improve processing capability. Eventually they take control of the world's nuclear arsenal and wipe everyone out. Then send a robot back in time, to wipe out the resistance movement before it happens.
