If the core system is upgraded, should the add-ons be re-installed as well with the new upgrades (that seem to be resubmitted)?

I haven't upgraded to v7 yet, but I am noticing the add-ons I do currently have for v6 being reshown… which I assume are upgrades for v7. So when I upgrade to v7, should the add-ons I do have also be upgraded?

Fan in action

If ocPortal works similar way like WP, some plugins(add ons) works w/o updating/upgrading.
(some "elements" might break)

But i think it would be best to update/upgrade if possible.

I don't have any add ons installed, so i can only answer by guessing.

Yes. We republish the addons as a matter of course, some may have changes. Personally I'd only consider it if we say a release is a compatibility breaker or if you notice an addon no longer works.
To upgrade you just install again over the top of what you had before.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Sounds good. I guess the phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" fits here. Once I feel comfortable upgrading the site to v7, I'll leave the few add-ons I have installed be unless something happens… like you mentioned.

Thanks!
